The Department of Veterans Affairs deployed the Oracle electronic health record at four Michigan medical centres on Saturday 11 April 2026: VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System, VA Battle Creek Medical Center, VA Detroit Healthcare System, and VA Saginaw Healthcare System. It is the first of 13 VA sites scheduled to receive the system this year, and the largest single deployment since the programme began.
The Oracle system, originally Cerner's Millennium platform before Oracle's 2022 acquisition, has had a troubled history at the VA. Patient-safety incidents at the earliest pilot sites prompted a years-long pause; only six VA medical centres had been live before the April expansion, out of roughly 170 nationally.
The 2026 schedule continues with four sites in Ohio and Kentucky in June (Chillicothe, Cincinnati, Cincinnati-Fort Thomas, and Dayton), three Indiana sites in August, and two further hospitals in Alaska and Ohio in October. Whether the cadence holds will depend on how the Michigan rollout performs in its first months, in particular around medication safety and clinical workflows, which have been the most cited concerns at earlier sites.
