King's College Hospital rolls out cardiac AI for angioplasty

AI-powered intracoronary imaging helps cardiologists characterise plaque and assess flow in real time during PCI. Planned to support around 500 patients a year at King's.

King's College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has rolled out an AI-powered imaging system that gives cardiologists real-time, high-resolution views inside coronary arteries during angioplasty. The software was deployed in April 2026 and is planned to support around 500 patients a year.

The tool helps clinicians identify plaque build-up, assess blood flow, and decide whether further intervention is needed at the point of the procedure rather than retrospectively from outside images. It joins a small but growing class of clinical-AI deployments that sit inside an existing procedural workflow rather than around it.
